Our High Commission in Freetown
The British High Commission in Sierra Leone represents the British Government in its relations with the Sierra Leonean Government, and promotes British interests in Sierra Leone.
The British High Commissioner, Mr Ian Hughes, is the official representative of Her Majesty the Queen in Sierra Leone. He is responsible to the British Government for all aspects of the relationship between the two countries.
British High Commission Structure
Political Section
The political section is responsible for political relations between the UK and Sierra Leonean Governments. It manages bilateral government co-operation, builds support for UK policies, and keeps London informed of important developments in Sierra Leone.
Visa Section
The Visa Section is responsible for processing visa or entry clearance applications for those wanting to visit, settle, work or study in the UK.
Consular Section
The Consular Section provides consular assistance and protection for British citizens. It also issues
passports
to British nationals living in Sierra Leone.
Press and Public Affairs Section
The Press and Public Affairs Section is responsible for presenting and promoting the UK and British Government policy in Sierra Leone.
Defence Section
The Defence Section is responsible for all aspects of the defence relationship between UK and Sierra Leone.
Management Section
The Management Section is responsible for all personnel and financial resources and provides support to all front line departments.
Bilateral Program Fund
The British High Commission’s Bilateral Program Fund provides small grants to projects in Sierra Leone.
